THE THING ABOUT PUSHPUSH
PushPush started in 1997 at the FloatAway building on Zonolite Road in a 1200 sq. ft room and presenting over 200 productions and educational programs. In 2003, we expanded to a 5,000 sq. ft. facility inside the East Decatur Station revitalization, dramatically increasing our capacity.
In 2004, PushPush launched the Dailies Filmmakers program, which produced and incubated over 250 short films, three features (including The Signal, 2007), and launched the careers of numerous actors, writers and directors. We entered our 14th anniversary in 2010 with a travel grant from the Theater Communications Group to develop its international outreach program, The Portal International Project.
2001 saw the launch of three new literary events, including Write Club Atlanta and Naked City. After receiving a prestigious New Media Grant in 2012 from the NEA, PushPush moved out of its Decatur location (3 Taverns Brewery) to tour and expand a writer’s program – CultivEIGHT ATL. While at East Decatur Station, PushPush nurtured over 1000 artists and projects, many of which have gone on to greater success. Between 2013 and 2016, PushPush produced several immersive theater productions in non-traditional spaces; some of which included See Through, The GRFX Series, and Intersection of Dreams with artists across the globe. In 2018, we launched a new lab for creators, Seedworks, and presented the first Atlanta chapter of Berlin’s popular, Social Muscle Club. In 2019, as part of Seedworks, we will travel to Berlin and Prague to work with artists in both cities for two new international exchange projects.
